The 226 channels are the ceiling, and an Option Authorization File decides what your unit actually runs

The GRX3 tracks up to 226 channels across GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS, SBAS and NavIC. Sokkia switches that capability, and tilt compensation, on through a licensed Option Authorization File loaded onto the receiver. The hardware is identical across units. What is enabled is not. At least one dealer ships a GRX3 base kit with only GPS and GLONASS active by default while advertising the full 226-channel ceiling above it. If your survey work depends on a specific constellation set or on tilt compensation, confirm exactly what is licensed on your own unit before you order. Call us at +1 888 850 6533. RTK holds 5 mm horizontal and 10 mm vertical, and one dealer publishes a different number for the same receiver

Sokkia's own brochure and operator manual rate real-time kinematic positioning at 5 mm plus 0.5 parts per million horizontal, 10 mm plus 0.8 parts per million vertical. The error grows with distance from the base station. Static and fast static logging tighten to 3 mm plus 0.4 ppm, under nominal conditions. Those conditions mean dual-frequency GPS, a calm ionosphere, an approved antenna calibration, and clear sky above 10 degrees. Initialization starts from 1 second, depending on baseline length and multipath. An independent dealer whose figures otherwise match Sokkia's own publishes a different, higher RTK number on a second table on the same page. We use Sokkia's own published figure here and flag the conflict rather than pick a winner.

Tilt compensation reads a magnetometer, so a clean compass calibration decides whether it earns its accuracy

Sokkia Tilt Technology uses an internal hybrid IMU, a 3D gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer, paired with an eCompass, to correct measurements up to 15 degrees off plumb. Tilted RTK adds 1.3 mm per degree of tilt up to 10 degrees, then 1.8 mm per degree beyond that, up to the 15-degree maximum. Getting there needs a three-step field calibration first: electronic level, 3D magnetic compass, and horizontal-plane compass, run through MAGNET Field or the Sokkia Receiver Utility. Because it is magnetometer based, Sokkia's own accuracy figure holds only in an environment free of magnetic disturbances. That is unlike a tilt system built on gyroscope and accelerometer data alone. Working near vehicles, rebar or other steel is where that condition gets tested.

IP67 and a magnesium shell survive a 2-meter pole drop, and the temperature range narrows once you plug it in

The magnesium alloy body carries an IP67 rating against dust and water. It survives a 2-meter pole drop and a 1-meter handle drop onto concrete, and is vibration tested to MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-202G. Sokkia states three separate operating ranges rather than one. On battery power without charging, it runs minus 20 to plus 50 degrees Celsius. Charging or on external power narrows that to 0 to plus 40 degrees. The MIL-STD-810G test rating is minus 40 to plus 65 degrees, a harsher figure than either field range above it. Storage runs minus 40 to plus 85 degrees.

Fifteen hours on battery drops fast the moment a radio or cellular module keys up

Two internal, non-removable lithium-ion packs run the receiver. Expect 15 hours of static logging or SiteComm RTK with no radio or modem fitted. Network RTK rover mode gives 13 hours over Bluetooth, or 12 hours using the receiver's own internal cellular module. Fit a UHF radio and that drops to 10 hours receive-only, 8 hours transmitting at 0.5 watts, or 6 hours at 1 watt. Sokkia's own manual states the combined battery capacity two different ways in two separate tables: 13.2 amp-hours in one, a figure implying 13.92 in the other. That is a small inconsistency inside the manufacturer's own document, and we are not resolving it on its behalf. The manual publishes no Bluetooth version number; one dealer states a version the manufacturer does not confirm.

Sokkia has moved on to the GRX5, though this unit was still shipping firmware in January

Sokkia's current GNSS receiver catalog lists the GRX5 and GCX3, not the GRX3, and the GRX3's own marketing page no longer resolves on Sokkia's site. One independent dealer titles its own listing discontinued. Sokkia itself has published no end-of-life notice on any surface we checked, and its support page was still serving GRX3 firmware, version 5.7, dated 27 January 2026. Read the evidence as withdrawn from the current sales catalog and superseded by the GRX5 as the flagship, still supported, rather than a confirmed discontinuation. We are not picking between those two readings for you.

MAGNET Field runs the receiver, and a phone call confirms which of five kits actually fits your job

MAGNET Field handles point collection, robotic and GNSS control, and CAD-in-field work; MAGNET Office handles post-processing. Neither ships with the receiver, and both run on a separate field controller or data collector, sold apart, such as the Sokkia SHC6000. Sokkia's manual guarantees the same core kit on every configuration: the receiver, a power cable, a power adapter and a wall charger cable. Also included: a Micro-USB cable, a serial cable, a Quick Reference Card and a Warranty Card. A radio antenna and a cellular antenna ship only with a matching module. Sokkia has not published a table mapping our five kit names to exact contents beyond that core. Its own warranty chapter ties the term to a printed warranty card rather than a published number.
