About us

We sell measurement instruments to universities, public agencies and survey firms in the United States. LiDAR scanners you carry and LiDAR sensors that fly, GNSS receivers, total stations, and subsurface imaging systems. We are an authorized reseller, everything is new and factory sealed, and it ships direct from the manufacturer to you.

What we actually do

Two things, and they are worth separating because most equipment suppliers only do the first.

We sell instruments. Purchase orders accepted from universities, colleges, school districts and public agencies, with the W-9 and vendor pack attached to the quote rather than sent after three emails asking for them. Quotes hold for 90 days, which covers a requisition cycle. Net 30 on an approved purchase order.

We specify them. Tell us what has to be measured and to what accuracy, and someone who understands the instruments will work out what meets it. Sometimes that is a cheaper instrument than the one you called about. We would rather have that conversation than sell you the more expensive answer and lose the next order. What we carry

Every brand on that list is one we are an authorized reseller for. If you need something we do not list, ask, because we can often source it and we will tell you plainly when we cannot.

How we sell, and why it is set up this way

Authorized reseller, not a marketplace

Everything is new, in factory condition, and carries the manufacturer's warranty. We do not sell refurbished, grey imported or counterfeit equipment. Warranty terms differ by manufacturer and are stated on your quote so you can read them before the requisition rather than after delivery. The detail is on service and support.

Shipped direct from the manufacturer

Instruments go from the manufacturer to your receiving dock rather than through a warehouse we are charging you for. That is why they arrive in original packaging with full documentation. It also shapes the returns path, and we set that out honestly on the support page rather than letting you find it out during a fault.

Built for the person who has to approve it

A great deal of what we do is paperwork, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Vendor registration, sole source letters where they are genuinely true, tax exemption certificates, portal registrations, and quotes itemized with manufacturer part numbers so the requisition matches the order matches the invoice. No educational discount

We do not offer one, and we say so on the page rather than making you ask. Our pricing is the same for everyone. Where a manufacturer runs its own education program, we will tell you it exists and we will not mark it up.

Who we are

My Surveying Direct is a small team. That is a real constraint and it comes with a real advantage: the person who answers the phone knows the catalog, and you are not routed through three departments to reach somebody who understands what a ppm term means. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Mountain Time, and we reply to email no later than the next working day.

Who you are actually dealing with

Our founder is a professional surveyor. The company exists because buying survey equipment was worse than it needed to be: specification advice was thin, the paperwork institutions actually need was treated as an afterthought, and too many suppliers were quoting numbers without the conditions attached.

We do not publish staff profiles or headshots. Plenty of suppliers do, and a photograph tells you nothing about whether the specification you are given will hold up. We would rather be judged on the things you can check for yourself before you commit a purchase order:

• The legal entity is published in full. Legal name, trading name, registered address and state of formation are below. The W-9 arrives attached to every quote, so your purchasing office can verify us in its own systems before anything is committed.
• Prices are on the page. Several of the closest comparable dealers in this market put every price behind an enquiry form. Ours are published, which is the more useful fact for anyone with a budget line to fill and an approval threshold to stay under.
• We publish real capture data. Point clouds off an instrument we sell, downloadable without giving us an email address, with the conditions stated and the limitations named. See sample capture data. No competitor in this market publishes any.
• Compliance claims are cited, not asserted. The government procurement page points at the published lists so your contracting officer can verify each claim independently rather than take our word for it.
• The phone is answered by someone who knows the catalog. Not a queue and not a script. If the cheaper instrument is the right one, that is what you will be told, and how we specify sets out exactly how that judgement gets made.
