OKM Rover C4
W-9 and vendor pack with every quote
Shipped direct from the manufacturer
A control unit and two probes, Standard and Super Sensor, running four scan modes between them: 3D Ground Scan, Magnetometer, Pinpointer and Mineral Scan. OKM's own product page and hardware manual disagree on several of its numbers, and both figures appear in the specifications.
01
The Rover C4 ships with two probes, and only the Super Sensor runs all four scan modes
The control unit pairs with two probes, and each one earns a different job. The Standard Probe is 445 mm long, weighs 0.4 kg, and connects straight into the control unit's sensor socket as one assembled unit. It runs two of the four operating modes. 3D Ground Scan builds a visualization of what is underground, saved for later study in Visualizer 3D Studio, OKM's own PC software. Magnetometer clears near-surface metal debris, nails, cans, screws, wire, before a detailed scan. The Super Sensor is larger, 960 mm and 0.9 kg, and connects by cable rather than direct fit, carried separately. OKM's manual states it alone runs Pinpointer, which relocates a target you already found. It alone also runs Mineral Scan, which searches for gold deposits along scan lines of at least 20 m, 65 ft. OKM's product page adds it also returns 3D Ground Scan images at higher resolution than the Standard Probe. Both probes ship in the box, so the field choice is which one fits the job, not which one to buy.
02
OKM's own product page and hardware manual do not agree on the control unit's size or weight
OKM's own product page states the control unit measures 390 x 300 x 140 mm and weighs about 1.5 kg. A dealer's own listing repeats both figures exactly. OKM's own hardware manual instead gives 360 x 320 x 140 mm and 1.6 kg for the same unit. Neither of OKM's own pages reconciles the difference. A third dealer's listing instead gives 540 to 810 x 150 x 280 mm. That figure matches none of the other sources and reads as a mismatched product description rather than a genuine fourth measurement. If the exact footprint or weight decides how you ship or store it, call before you order rather than build a case around any single number here.
03
Bluetooth 5.1 moves your scan data over a link OKM rates at about 10 meters, and one dealer says 100
The control unit talks to its included notebook, and to the paired Bluetooth headphones, over Bluetooth 5.1. OKM's own product page and hardware manual both put the maximum range at approximately 10 m. Both also list a top transfer rate of 1 Mbps and maximum transmitting power of +8 dBm. A dealer's own spec table instead states approximately 100 m, a tenfold difference, and adds a -85 dBm receiving sensitivity figure that appears on no OKM page we checked. The headphones ship in the box, and the control unit's internal speaker switches off automatically once they pair. If your workflow depends on the exact range, confirm it by phone before you rely on either figure.
04
The charger draws up to 60 watts at 19 volts, a figure one dealer states very differently
OKM's own product page and hardware manual agree on the charger the control unit needs: 19 V DC at up to 3.16 A, 60 W maximum. A dealer's listing instead states 11 to 13 VDC at 6 W, a figure no OKM source we checked supports. OKM's manual is explicit either way: use only the charger and batteries included in the box. Never plug the unit into a 115 or 230 volt mains supply directly. If you need the exact charger specification for a spare or a replacement, confirm it by phone rather than from either figure here.
05
Visualizer 3D Studio needs a Windows 10 computer, and one dealer's listing still describes a decade-old machine
The box includes a pre-configured Windows notebook, so most buyers never need to check this. OKM's current product page lists what the included software, Visualizer 3D Studio, needs on any computer. The current figures are a USB 2.0 port, 250 MB of free disk space, 2 GB of RAM, a 1.2 GHz processor, a 1920 x 1080 display and Windows 10. A dealer's own listing instead describes a CD-ROM drive, 50 MB of free disk space and 256 MB of RAM, with support back to Windows XP. Those figures read as a legacy spec sheet rather than the current software generation. If you plan to run the software on a computer other than the one in the box, call to confirm exactly what it needs.
06
OKM's general FAQ promises a colder operating limit than the Rover C4's own spec table
OKM's own spec table rates the control unit's operating range at -10 to 60°C, and storage at -20 to 70°C. Separately, OKM's general FAQ covers its whole line of 3D ground scanners. It states operating temperatures down to -20°C, a colder figure the Rover C4's own spec table does not repeat. The unit is not weatherproof either way; OKM's manual states plainly that water or condensation can destroy it, so watch for condensation when moving between temperatures. The manual's more serious caution is about what you find, not what you carry. If a scan turns up something shaped like ordnance, curved or round, or ground with a reddish, rust-indicating tint, OKM's instruction is direct. Leave it exactly where it is, mark the spot and report it to the police rather than dig. It also warns against clearing brush or prying rocks with either probe, and against using the unit in the rain. Opening the control unit yourself is out too: an anti-tampering module destroys it if opened, and there are no end-user-serviceable parts inside.
07 FOR UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES
My Surveying Direct ships the Rover C4 direct from the manufacturer, and one dealer's box contents do not match OKM's
My Surveying Direct ships the Rover C4 direct from the manufacturer and accepts purchase orders from universities, colleges and government agencies. OKM's own product page itemizes an 11-piece delivery scope. A dealer's listing instead describes a tablet PC and a USB Bluetooth dongle in place of the notebook and flash drive. It also lists a combined power pack rather than a separate charger and adapter set, and a carrying tube rather than the protector tube name OKM uses. That reads as an older configuration rather than the current one. Warranty length is similarly unsettled for a dealer purchase. OKM's own Rover C4 product page shows a "2 Years Guarantee" badge, and OKM's general FAQ separately ties a 2-year warranty to buying directly from OKM GmbH in Altenburg, Germany. Whether either term carries through an authorized US dealer channel is not stated on OKM's product page or in its FAQ. Safety and cautions (from the hardware manual)
| Danger of explosion during excavation | The manual's own section heading. It warns that ground in many former conflict areas still holds buried ordnance, instructs the user not to dig or hack at a metal signal, to note curved or round shapes and reddish (rust-indicating) soil as warning signs, to leave any suspected ordnance untouched and unmoved, and to mark the location and report it to police rather than disturb it |
| Possible health hazards | "If used properly this device usually does not pose any health hazards. According to current scientific knowledge, the high-frequency signals are not harmful to the human body on account of their low power" |
| Surrounding area | Not weatherproof; watch for condensation when moving between temperatures. Avoid use within 50 m (150 ft) of large electric motors or unshielded loudspeakers, which can produce strong magnetic fields. Remove metallic objects from your person (phones, keys, jewelry, steel-toe boots) before scanning, as they can distort results |
| Voltage | Use only the approved chargers, batteries and rechargeable batteries included in the delivery scope. "Never use the 115/230 Volt mains supply" directly |
| Care and use | Manual lists explicit DON'Ts: do not use to clear brush or pry rocks, do not drop in water or use while raining, do not leave exposed to dew or extreme heat (including a car trunk), do not spray lubricants or chemicals onto the electronics, and do not attempt to modify or repair the electronics (voids the warranty) |
