Ground Scan and Live Sound, vertical only, with the SRIS coil built in for pinpointing. Professional Plus is the edition that adds horizontal scanning.
01
Vertical scanning only, and that's the line between Professional and Professional Plus
OKM's own manual states it plainly: the control unit is the scanning probe, and it works in vertical or horizontal position, with horizontal reserved for the Professional Plus version. Professional ships without the telescopic rod assembly that makes horizontal scanning possible at all, so 3D Ground Scan runs vertical only here. Live Sound, an acoustical magnetic field mode for clearing an area of ferrous metal before a Ground Scan, works vertical on both editions, so that part carries over unchanged. Two further modes exist only on Professional Plus: Live Scan (horizontal) and Live Scan (Ultrasound). OKM's manual states, in both chapters, verbatim: this operating mode can only be used with the Professional Plus version of Fusion. If your work needs horizontal scanning or either Live Scan mode, this listing isn't it. Professional Plus is the edition that adds them.
02
Two modes ship here, and the SRIS coil is a feature inside them, not a third mode
OKM's manual describes two operating modes for the Professional edition: 3D Ground Scan and Live Sound. The SRIS Search Coil is not a third mode; it's a feature you switch on inside either one, used mainly to check soil you've already dug for small items the main scan flagged, a ring, an earring, a coin, a button. The control unit runs sensor technology SCMI-15-D; the SRIS coil itself runs SRIS-18K. Audio comes through Bluetooth headphones over Bluetooth 5.1, in the 2.402 to 2.480 GHz band, up to 1 Mbps, +8 dBm maximum transmit power, and about 10 meters of range before it drops.
03
1024 samples a second build the picture, read on a computer OKM names two different ways
The control unit samples the ground at 1024 values per second, at 16-bit resolution, processed by a Cortex M3 main chip at 32 MHz alongside a Cortex M0 slave chip at 24 MHz. That data becomes a 3D image in Visualizer 3D Studio, Standard Edition, the software OKM includes with Professional. OKM's edition comparison pages state 4 licenses; neither the product page's delivery list nor the manual's own delivery table gives a license count, so that figure comes from one page only. Running it needs a Windows 10 computer with at least 2 GB RAM, a 1.2 GHz processor, a 1920 by 1080 display, and a graphics card carrying OpenGL 3.3. Professional includes that computer. OKM's manual calls it a Tablet PC seven times, only once written out in full as Windows Tablet PC, and never says Notebook. OKM's own product page calls the same item a Pre-configured Windows Notebook. One computer, two names, straight from OKM's own two pages.
04
About a kilogram, and roughly 12 hours before it needs the charger
The control unit weighs about 1 kilogram, OKM's own figure, and OKM notes across its spec tables that these are average values with minor deviations possible in operation. Run time on the internal battery is approximately 12 hours; recharging that same battery takes approximately 3 hours on the included charger, rated 19 V DC at 3.16 A. That's the whole power budget: one internal battery, charged in about 3 hours, and a charge window to plan a day's work around.
05
IP40 is the rating, and OKM says plainly it isn't waterproof
IP40 is OKM's own ingress rating for the control unit, and OKM states outright that it is not waterproof; no test standard such as IEC 60529 is cited for that IP40 figure on any surface checked. It's rated to operate between minus 10°C and 60°C, and to survive storage between minus 20°C and 70°C, with humidity from 5 to 75 percent. Moving it from cold to warm brings a real caution: watch for condensation, and don't operate it until that's evaporated. Keep about 50 meters, 150 feet, from large electric motors or unshielded loudspeakers, and leave phones, keys and jewelry off your body while scanning; OKM's manual notes all three can affect scan data.
06
OKM's manual carries a caution the product page doesn't: what to do if you find something that isn't a coin
OKM's product page names Explosive Ordnance Disposal Services as one of this detector's use cases. Its manual carries the caution that use case implies, in a section the product page never repeats. Ground in many former conflict areas still holds buried ordnance. OKM's instruction is not to dig or hack at a detected signal. A reddish color near the surface can mean rust traces. Curved or round shapes, buttons, rings, pegs, or anything resembling ammunition, bullets or shells, should not be touched or moved; old fuses and explosive residue can turn crystalline over time, and movement alone can create the friction that sets them off. Mark the spot, leave it, and call the police. Used properly, OKM states the device normally poses no health hazard; its scanning signals are low power by current scientific understanding. The control unit also carries a built-in anti-tamper module that destroys it if opened without authorization. There are no parts inside for a user to service.

Sensor and coil technology
| Sensor technology, control unit | SCMI-15-D |
| Coil technology, SRIS search coil | SRIS-18K |
| SRIS search coil function | OKM describes it as a feature to locate metallic objects close to the surface, activated manually by the operator while setting up Live Sound or 3D Ground Scan, used mainly to check excavated soil for small items (rings, earrings, coins, buttons) that the main scan already flagged |
| Wireless data transfer | Bluetooth 5.1, 2.402–2.480 GHz, up to 1 Mbps, +8 dBm maximum transmitting power, approx. 10 m maximum range |
Operating modes
| Ground Scan | Available, vertical orientation only on the Professional edition. OKM's own hardware manual states: “The control unit itself is the scanning probe that can be used in vertical or horizontal position (the latter only with the Professional Plus version).” Its operating-modes summary table lists the Professional column as “Ground Scan (vertical)” only, against “Ground Scan (vertical, horizontal)” for Professional Plus |
| Live Sound (Magnetometer) | Available, vertical only on both editions. An acoustical magnetic field measurement to detect ferrous metals near the surface, used to clear a scan field before a Ground Scan |
| Live Scan (horizontal) | Not available on the Professional edition. OKM's manual states verbatim, in the chapter for this mode: “This operating mode can only be used with the Professional Plus version of Fusion.” Professional Plus's operating-modes table lists this as a mode Professional does not have at all, not a restricted version of a mode Professional has |
| Live Scan (Ultrasound) | Not available on the Professional edition. Same manual chapter carries the identical sentence: “This operating mode can only be used with the Professional Plus version of Fusion.” OKM's fusion-editions comparison page names this “Live Scan (‘Ultrasound’)” and groups it with Live Scan (Multi-Sensor) as Professional Plus exclusives; the manual itself does not use the term “Multi-Sensor,” only “Live Scan” and “Live Scan (Ultrasound)” |
| Probe orientation | Vertical only on the Professional edition. Horizontal orientation, and the telescopic rod assembly that makes it usable, is Professional Plus only, per the manual's scope-of-delivery table and its explicit statement above |
Delivery scope, Professional edition
| Included per OKM's manual (Table 1: Scope of delivery, Professional column) | Control unit (1), Bluetooth headphones (1), software “Visualizer 3D” (1), user manual (1), carrying case (1), Windows Tablet PC (1) |
| Not included on Professional (manual's own – marks) | Telescopic rod assembly, holder for Tablet PC. Both are listed with a value of 1 in the Professional Plus column and a dash in the Professional column of the same table |
| Included per OKM's product page (Delivery Scope tab, more granular than the manual's table) | 1x Control Unit, 1x Pre-configured Windows Notebook, 1x USB Flash Drive with OKM Visualizer 3D Studio Standard Edition, 1x Bluetooth Headphones incl. charging cable, 1x Charger with charging cable, 1x Travel Adapter Set, 1x Waterproof and shock-resistant Protector Case, 1x Quick Start Guide |
| OKM's own delivery-scope caveat | “The actual scope of delivery is subject to technical developments or specific model configurations and can differ from depicted components.” Printed directly below the itemized list on the product page |
Software and computer requirements
| Software edition, Professional | OKM Visualizer 3D Studio, Standard Edition. OKM's fusion-editions and fusion-series comparison pages state 4 software licenses for the Professional edition, against Professional Edition software (also 4 licenses) for Professional Plus. Neither the product page's delivery-scope list nor the manual's scope-of-delivery table states a license count; both simply list the software as a single line item |
| Computer minimum requirements | USB 2.0 interface, minimum 250 MB free disk space, 2 GB RAM, 1920 x 1080 display, 1.2 GHz processor, graphics card with 1 GB RAM and OpenGL 3.3, Windows 10 |
Safety and cautions (from the hardware manual)
| Danger of explosion during excavation | OKM's manual carries a dedicated caution section, quoted in full: warns that ground in many former conflict areas still holds buried ordnance, and instructs the operator not to dig or hack at a detected metal signal wildly. Notes a reddish ground color near the surface can indicate rust traces, and that curved or round shapes (buttons, rings, pegs) or anything resembling ammunition, bullets or shells should not be touched or moved. States that old fuses and explosive residue can have become crystalline over time and that movement can produce friction leading to an explosion. Instructs the finder to mark the location, not remove anything, and report the find to the police |
| Possible health hazards | If used properly, OKM states the device normally poses no health hazards; per current scientific knowledge its high-frequency signals are not harmful to the human body given their low power |
| Tamper protection | The control unit has a built-in anti-tampering module that destroys the unit if improperly opened. OKM states there are no end-user-serviceable parts inside |
| Surrounding area | Not weatherproof; watch for condensation when moving the unit from cold to warm environments and do not operate until any condensation has evaporated. Avoid strong magnetic fields (large electric motors, unshielded loudspeakers), recommending a distance of approximately 50 m (150 ft). Remove personal metallic objects (phones, keys, jewelry) and avoid steel-toe boots, since they can affect scan data |
| Voltage and charging | Use only the approved chargers, batteries and rechargeable batteries included in the scope of delivery; do not exceed the indicated power supply range |
| Maintenance, what to avoid | Penetrating water, strong dirt and dust deposits, hard impacts, strong magnetic fields, and high or long-lasting heat exposure. Clean with a dry soft rag only; transport the device and accessories in the appropriate carrying cases |
