01

Every component is rated IP40, and OKM's own spec table says the eXp 7000 is not waterproof

The Control Unit, Super Sensor, Extender and VLF Coil X7 all carry an IP40 rating. OKM's own specification table adds a separate line, stated plainly: Waterproof: No. The manual's own disclaimer describes the eXp 7000 as built for treasure hunting in non-hazardous environments, not as a mine detector. If your search takes you into a riverbed, the surf or standing water, this is not that detector.

02

Eight operating modes take you from clearing surface junk to visualizing a target in 3D

Magnetometer finds ferrous junk near the surface, nails, cans, screws, clearing an area before you scan deeper. 3D Ground Scan then visualizes subsurface targets and structures, color-coded by depth and size, for detailed analysis afterward in OKM's own Visualizer 3D Studio software. Live Scan shows underground anomalies in real time, in a 3D View or a Top View. Mineral Scan maps natural gold deposits and mineralized zones as a percentage-based color distribution. Tunnel Scan looks for underground voids, tunnels and cavities. Pinpointer narrows a found target to an exact spot. New on the eXp 7000, 3D VLF Scan holds the coil static rather than swinging it, scanning a whole field in one pass instead of stopping to dig at every signal. The data saves for 3D analysis later, in the same Visualizer software. VLF Metal Detection, Very Low Frequency, rounds it out for near-surface coins, jewelry, relics and small artifacts, with Multi-Frequency, Target-ID Zones and Pinpoint modes built in.

OKM's two headline depth figures, 25 meters and 40 centimeters, carry no published test condition

3D Ground Scan's own marketing figure claims depth to 25 meters, 82 feet. That number appears identically on the product page's hero stat block, in the Detection Modes description, and on a dealer's page. None of the four manufacturer surfaces we checked, the product page, the FAQ, the spec tables or the 104-page manual, publish a soil type, target size or test method behind it. VLF Metal Detection's figure has its own problem. OKM's product page pairs 40 centimeters with (12 in), but 12 inches converts to roughly 30 centimeters, not 40. The same dealer's FAQ instead pairs the same 40 centimeters with approximately 16 inches, a closer conversion, without resolving which figure is the intended primary spec. Neither depth figure carries a test condition anywhere we checked. Treat both as marketing claims, not specs, and never as a promise about what you will find at your site.

The SuperSense System X7 scans up to seven lines at once with the Super Sensor and four Extenders

The Super Sensor pairs with up to four interchangeable Extenders, attachable in any combination on either side. With all four fitted, the full configuration activates seven sensor pairs and scans seven lines simultaneously, OKM's own figure, cutting the number of passes a search needs. The Control Unit alone weighs 1.86 kilograms, 66 ounces, with an 8.4-inch touchscreen. The Super Sensor weighs 0.94 kilograms separately, the VLF Coil X7 0.7 kilograms, and each Extender approximately 0.2 kilograms. The detachable carrying rod breaks into three sections, a front part with clamp, a midsection and a rear counterweight, assembling to 1935 millimeters, 76.2 inches, and 2.4 kilograms. A 180-centimeter cable runs from both the Super Sensor and the VLF Coil X7 back to the Control Unit.

05

The Control Unit runs seven hours on a charge and recharges in three, with an 8.4-inch touchscreen

Operating time is rated at 7 hours at 25°C, 77°F, medium brightness, on a full charge, the same figure OKM publishes on the product page, states in its manual and a dealer repeats on its own listing. Charging takes 3 hours between 10°C and 30°C, 50°F to 86°F. The battery is a user-replaceable lithium-ion pack, 7.27 volts, 10.2 amp-hours, 74.154 watt-hours. The touchscreen measures 8.4 inches diagonally at 1024 by 768 pixels. Processing runs on an ARM Cortex quad-core A53 at 1.6 gigahertz, with four smaller companion cores handling other tasks, backed by 2 gigabytes of RAM and 8 gigabytes of onboard storage. The Control Unit is rated to operate between -10°C and 50°C, 14°F to 122°F, and to survive storage between -20°C and 60°C, -4°F to 158°F. Data moves over USB-C, and feedback comes through built-in speakers or Bluetooth Low Latency headphones.

OKM's manual carries a direct warning: never touch detected ammunition, report it to the police

A DANGER box in the manual states it plainly: do not touch detected ammunition, report it to the police. The manual also warns to excavate carefully around a clear signal, since reddish soil discoloration or a curved, button-shaped target can mean an old fuse. On pacemakers, the SuperSense System is described as passive, no magnetic waves, but the VLF Coil is active and does emit electromagnetic fields; the manual tells anyone with a pacemaker or similar device to check with their doctor first. Legally, the manual's U.S. edition states that artifacts on public land are protected and illegal to collect, and that artifacts on private land require the landowner's written permission, with ownership governed by the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990, though the manual notes ownership may still be subject to a tribe's civil claim of superior title. Buying the device does not itself grant a detection or excavation permit; check with the authorities for your search area first. The manual's own disclaimer is explicit: the eXp 7000 is a ground scanner for treasure hunting, not a mine detector.

Specifications

Operating modes (8)
3D Ground Scan Visualizes subsurface targets and structures in 3D with color-coded depth and size, processed for detailed analysis in Visualizer 3D Studio. OKM's own marketing figure states depth to 25 m (82 ft); this figure is stated identically and without a soil type, target size or other test condition on the product page's hero stat block, in the Detection Modes description, and on a dealer's page. No test condition is published on the product page, the FAQ, or the 104-page manual. Not a specced, conditioned capability.
Magnetometer Identifies ferrous objects (nails, cans, screws) near the surface, used to clean a scan area before running 3D Ground Scan
Live Scan Real-time visualization of underground anomalies and structures, with a 3D View or Top View display option
Mineral Scan Detects natural gold deposits and mineralized zones; a percentage-based color distribution map shows how often each color appears in the scan, as an indicator of mineral concentration
Tunnel Scan Detects underground voids, tunnels and cavities, with visualization the manufacturer describes as improved over the prior eXp generation
Pinpointer Localizes a target precisely, with a display of the scan line and current signal strength
3D VLF Scan New on the eXp 7000. Scans an entire field with VLF technology in one pass rather than stopping to dig at every signal; per the manual, the coil is held static rather than swung during this mode, unlike a conventional VLF sweep. Measurement data is saved for later 3D visualization and analysis in Visualizer 3D Studio
VLF Metal Detection Locates near-surface metal objects (coins, jewelry, relics, small artifacts) using Very Low Frequency technology, with Multi-Frequency (5/10/15 kHz), Target-ID Zones and Pinpoint Modes. OKM's own marketing figure states depth to 40 cm (12 in) on the product page hero stat block; 12 in converts to roughly 30 cm, not 40 cm, an internal unit-conversion inconsistency in OKM's own published figure. A dealer's FAQ instead pairs the same 40 cm with "approximately... 16 inches," which is the closer conversion. Neither pairing carries a soil type, target size or other test condition on OKM's product page, its spec tables, its FAQ or its manual. Not a specced, conditioned capability.
SuperSense System X7

Safety and cautions (from OKM's own 104-page user manual)
Caution during excavation A DANGER box states: "Do not touch detected ammunition! Report it to the police!" The manual instructs excavating carefully around a clear target signal to avoid accidentally detonating old ammunition, and to treat reddish soil discoloration near the surface (a possible rust trace of fuses) and curved, round, button- or peg-shaped targets as reasons for extra caution
Pacemakers The SuperSense System is described as passive and does not emit magnetic waves; the VLF Coil is active and does emit electromagnetic fields. The manual states metal detectors are generally not known to interfere with pacemakers when used as instructed, but tells users wearing a pacemaker or similar medical device to clarify possible interference with their doctor
Electrical hazard, battery replacement A WARNING box in the battery-replacement procedure states: "Keep water away from electronic components and cables"
Choking and asphyxiation hazard A DANGER box on the Protector Case: "A Cover is Not a Toy! Keep Away from Children!"
Detection and excavation permits The manual states that purchasing an OKM detector does not automatically grant a detection or excavation permit, and instructs the user to consult the authorities responsible for their search project or area
US legal notice (artifacts) The manual's U.S. Edition front matter states that artifacts on public land are protected by state and federal law and illegal to collect; that artifacts on private land are legal to collect only with the landowner's written permission and legal to own under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act of 1990 (NAGPRA), but may still be subject to a tribe's civil claim of superior title; and directs users to their State Historic Preservation Office and to the Bureau of Land Management website before collecting minerals
Alcohol and drugs A front-matter notice states: "Do not drink any alcohol or take any drugs before or during the operation of the device and follow the instructions carefully!"
Interference and thunderstorms The manual instructs keeping the SuperSense System at least 50 m (160 ft) from electric motors, speakers, phones and keys; the VLF Coil at least 2 m (7 ft) from metallic objects and at least 15 m (49 ft) from active interference sources such as other detectors; and advises avoiding use of the detector during thunderstorms
Storage and transport Store the detector and accessories in the Protector Case in a cool, dry place (10–25°C / 50–75°F); unplug the probe and power off the Control Unit before packing. For long-term storage, recharge the battery at least every 3 months to approximately 90% of maximum capacity to avoid complete discharge
Not designed as a mine detector The manual's disclaimer states the device "has been specifically designed and manufactured as a high-quality ground scanner and is recommended for treasure hunting in non-hazardous environments," and "has not been designed as a mine detector"
