The case for the 116S over the 132S
Half the channels and roughly $17,760 less. For volumes, floor plans, general site capture and most construction progress work, sixteen channels produce a model nobody will complain about. The 132S is the buy when point density is the deliverable rather than a means to it.
Weak GNSS and indoors
It runs on SLAM with the GNSS as a correction rather than a crutch, so plant rooms, basements, tunnels and tree cover are all in scope. This is the practical reason handhelds get bought alongside a drone rather than instead of one.
Standard against Basic
Same scanner. The $3,500 is the LP360 Land licence tier. Already have a Standard seat, buy the Basic.
No loop closure
Path planning is loop-free when you have RTK or PPK. No walking the site twice to close a loop, and no overlap requirement. On a large or awkward floor plate that is the difference between one pass and two.
