The 535 is the 515 with a third laser return and half again the usable range. Almost everything else about the two sensors is the same, and that one difference is about vegetation.
Where the third return earns its money
A first return comes off the canopy. A second gets you into it. The third is what reaches the ground under dense cover, and it is the difference between a survey you can contour and a survey you have to re-fly in winter.
Range goes from 80 m on the 515 to 120 m here, both quoted at 20 per cent reflectivity. Higher flight lines, fewer passes, and more margin when the terrain is not flat.
When it is the wrong buy
If your work is open ground, highway corridor, stockpiles, quarry, bare earth, the third return is doing nothing for you and the 515 produces the same deliverable for $11,150 less. Tell us what you are flying over and we will say plainly which of the two you need.
If 120 m still is not enough
The 641 reaches 170 m with up to six returns and tighter scanner figures, for $12,150 less than this. It is a single beam sensor rather than a 32 channel one, so the two behave differently, and it is built in the United States if that matters to your procurement. Worth a conversation before you settle on the 535.

One thing to settle before you order. GeoCue documents the Version C build of this sensor and the Version C change is the cameras specifically. This is the Version B build. The scanner, the range, the field of view and the accuracy figures are the laser and the GNSS, and they hold across both. The camera count does not, so it is not in the table above. Ask us and we will get it confirmed in writing before you commit.
