Sokkia builds the iM-100 series in four accuracy classes, measured to ISO 17123-3:2001: iM-101 at 1 arc-second, iM-102 at 2, iM-103 at 3, iM-105 at 5. An arc-second is an angle unit, one 3,600th of a degree; a smaller number reads a tighter angle. This listing prices the iM-101, the top-accuracy model of the four. All four variants share one chassis and one spec sheet. Angle accuracy is the only figure that changes between them, plus a finer display-resolution option on the iM-101 alone. Confirm which SKU you are ordering, since each ships as one fixed accuracy class, not a choice on one unit.

Battery life runs 28 hours in Eco mode and 21 hours in regular mode, on the BDC70

The BDC70 battery is a 7.2V, 5,240 mAh lithium-ion pack. It reaches up to 28 hours in EDM eco mode, the power-saving setting, and about 21 hours in regular measurement mode. Both figures are tested at 20°C with a fine measurement taken every 30 seconds. The CDC68A charger needs about 5.5 hours to fully charge one battery. Plan a full field day around the 21-hour regular-mode figure rather than the eco-mode headline.

This is a manual total station: someone aims the telescope by hand for every shot

The iM-100 has no motor. Every angle and distance shot, prism or reflectorless, needs a person to point the telescope at the target. What it automates is onboard: data processing and reflectorless distance measurement, once aimed. Sokkia's separate iX series is the motorized line, using ultrasonic drive and automatic prism tracking so one person can run it alone from a distance. The iM-100 and the iX series sit in different Sokkia categories, Manual Total Stations against Motorized and Robotic. Buying the iM-100 for one-person robotic work is a mismatch worth catching before checkout.

Reflectorless range reaches 800 m, and accuracy loosens the further out you measure

Reflectorless means measuring distance to a bare surface, no prism or reflective target needed, using the instrument's own laser. The iM-100 reads reflectorless to 800 m under Sokkia's normal atmospheric conditions, extending to 1,000 m under its stricter good-conditions definition. Accuracy is banded by distance in fine mode. Near range, 0.3 to 200 m, it is 2 mm plus 2 ppm of the distance measured. That loosens to 5 mm plus 10 ppm from 200 to 350 m, and 10 mm plus 10 ppm from 350 to 1,000 m. A prism reaches further, to 5,000 m under normal conditions, at a tighter 1.5 mm plus 2 ppm. Sokkia rates the laser Class 3R under IEC60825-1 and FDA rules while measuring reflectorless. It drops to a safer Class 1-equivalent output aimed at a prism or reflective sheet.

Sokkia's own brochure gives two different figures for the low-temperature model, and we are not picking one

The standard iM-100 is rated -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F), stated once, consistently, in the manual's own specification table. A low-temperature model exists too, and Sokkia's own 4-page brochure states it two different ways in the same document. Front-matter marketing copy gives -35 to 50°C, region dependent. The brochure's own specification-table footnote, attached directly to the Operating Temperature row, instead gives -30 to 50°C (-22 to 122°F), available on a built-to-order basis. Neither figure is restated in the manual's own specification table. We print both Sokkia figures rather than choose between them: a contradiction inside the manufacturer's own document is a finding to report, not ours to resolve. Call us before ordering a low-temperature unit and we will find out which figure applies to your build.

No source we checked names an onboard field-software product for the iM-100, unlike its own siblings

Sokkia's FX series ships with a named onboard program, MAGNET Sokkia Field, stated on Sokkia's own product page. The entry-level iM-50 and iM-60 ship with a different named program, SDRbasic. Nothing we found names an equivalent product for the iM-100; it runs its own onboard menu for measurement, coordinates and stakeout, but carries no marketed software name. GeoPro Field, Sokkia's own field-software download portal, lists support for the FX and iX series only, not the iM-100. A laptop or tablet data collector, such as Sokkia's SHC500 or SHC6000 family, connects over Bluetooth, USB or RS-232 as a separate accessory. Sokkia's own spec table marks that Bluetooth radio 'Option,' dependent on the telecommunications rules of the country of purchase. Its marketing copy elsewhere presents the same radio as standard, no caveat repeated. We record that tension rather than resolve it.
