The FX-201, FX-203 and FX-205 share one body and one job: every angle and every reflectorless shot is aimed by hand, no motor, no tracking. Reflectorless range runs to 800 m under normal conditions and 1,000 m under Sokkia's own good-conditions test, with field software running onboard at no extra cost.

01

The FX is aimed by hand for every shot; nothing about it drives or tracks itself

Every angle and every distance shot comes from a person standing at the instrument, aiming it by hand. There is no motor, no automatic target recognition, and no remote one-person operation. Sokkia sells a separate line for that job: the iX series, built around an ultrasonic drive that finds and tracks a prism on its own, works from a controller up to 600 m away, and needs only one person in the field. Sokkia files the FX under Manual Total Stations on its own site, and the iX under Motorized/Robotic, because the two answer different questions. The FX answers how accurately one operator can measure. It does not answer how few people the job takes.

1", 3" or 5"
Angle accuracy across this listing's three variants (FX-201, FX-203, FX-205)
Three variants: FX-201 at 1 arc-second, FX-203 at 3 and FX-205 at 5. This page covers the FX-201 variant, the 1-second model
0.3 to 800 m
Reflectorless distance range under Sokkia's normal atmospheric conditions
Up to 1,000 m under Sokkia's stricter good-conditions definition (no haze, about 40 km visibility, overcast, no scintillation).
no motor
This is a manual total station, aimed by hand for every shot, not a robotic one
Sokkia's own robotic/motorized line (the iX series, e.g. iX-1200/600, sold separately by us) uses ultrasonic motors and automatic prism tracking for one-person remote operation; FX has neither
IP65
Dust and water ingress protection
Standard model rated -20 to 60°C operating temperature; a Low Temperature model is available rated -30 to 50°C

02

Three accuracy classes share one body: FX-201 at 1 second, FX-203 at 3, FX-205 at 5

The FX ships in three angle-accuracy classes off one body: FX-201 measures to 1 arc-second, FX-203 to 3, and FX-205 to 5. All three read distance the same way, a coaxial phase-contrast EDM firing a red laser diode. Against a standard prism, range runs 1.3 to 5,000 m under normal conditions and to 6,000 m under Sokkia's stricter good-conditions test. Without a prism, reflectorless range runs 0.3 to 800 m under normal conditions and to 1,000 m under good conditions. Fine-measurement accuracy is 1.5 mm plus 2 ppm of the distance against a standard prism, widening to 5 mm plus 10 ppm reflectorless past 200 m. The reflectorless laser is Class 3R, strong enough to injure eyes or skin in the beam; switch to a prism or reflective sheet and the output drops to the safer Class 1 equivalent.

03

This listing sells the current FX-200 series: FX-201, FX-203 and FX-205

Sokkia's FX Advanced line is now in its FX-200 generation, and that is the version this listing sells: part numbers 1043470-01 for the FX-201, 1043470-13 for the FX-203, and 1043470-20 for the FX-205, each documented in Sokkia's own current FX-200 operator's manual and brochure. An older FX-100 generation existed from 2011 to 2012, under different part numbers and different specifications; it is not what ships from this listing. If you are comparing a spec sheet from another source, check the part number against the ones above before assuming a figure applies to what you are buying.

04

Field software runs onboard the instrument itself, standard, at no extra cost

The FX runs Windows Embedded Compact 7 on its own touchscreen, a 3.5 inch color LCD with 29 backlit keys. Field software runs on that screen, not on a separate device: Sokkia's current FX Advanced product page states the instrument comes standard with MAGNET Sokkia Field, and Sokkia's own software portal separately lists the FX as a supported instrument for its current GeoPro Field release. Both are genuine, current Sokkia software; which one ships active on a given unit is not settled by anything Sokkia publishes. A laptop or tablet field controller is not included. Sokkia's SHC5000 and SHC6000 family connects over Bluetooth, USB or RS-232 as an optional accessory, sold by us as its own listing, and the FX runs its full job without one.

05

Bluetooth pairs the FX with a controller across a room, not across a job site: about 10 m

The FX's Bluetooth radio is Class 1, and Sokkia's own manual states a usable range of about 10 m when paired with its SHC500 collector. That is a short-range link for handing data to a nearby controller, not a way to run the instrument from across a site. The FX also carries wired connections for the same job: a serial RS-232C port and USB 2.0, both Type A host and Type mini-B client, plus 1 GB of internal storage for program files and support for a USB flash drive for external storage.

06

IP65 sealing and a 60°C ceiling let the FX work through a full field day

The standard FX carries an IP65 rating against dust and driving rain, and runs from -20°C to 60°C without condensation; a Low Temperature model extends the cold end to -30°C but caps out at 50°C. The single-display body weighs 5.7 kg with its battery and tribrach fitted, at 191 by 174 by 348 mm. Its BDC72 battery runs about 20 hours at 20°C with a fine measurement taken every 30 seconds, and the CDC77 charger refills two batteries at once in about 8 hours.
