DJI names three aircraft for the P1, and Matrice 400 support arrived in a P1 firmware update
DJI's specification page names the Matrice 400, the Matrice 350 RTK and the Matrice 300 RTK. Matrice 400 support arrived with P1 firmware v10.01.02.01, released on 10 June 2025. A payload on older firmware needs updating first. The P1 mounts on the single downward gimbal connector on all three aircraft. On the Matrice 400 it can also take either port of the dual downward connector. DJI states mapping accuracy is reduced if a second payload sits there at the same time. DJI's release notes list the DJI RC Plus with the Matrice 350 RTK. With the Matrice 300 RTK they list either the DJI RC Plus or the DJI Smart Controller Enterprise. DJI names no other aircraft on its specification page, its FAQ, its user manual or its quick start guide.

The 35 mm lens is in the box, the 24 mm and the 50 mm are not
DJI's quick start guide lists five items in the box. The gimbal and camera including an SD card, a storage case, a camera body cap, a lens rear cap, and a lens cleaning cloth. DJI's user manual and quick start guide both state the DJI DL 35mm F2.8 LS ASPH lens is included. Both state that the 24 mm and the 50 mm are bought separately. The P1 takes a full size SD card rather than a microSD, rated UHS-I or above, to a maximum of 512 GB. DJI names no capacity and no brand for the card in the box, on its product page, specification page, FAQ, user manual or quick start guide.

3 cm and 5 cm without ground control, at one ground sample distance and one flight speed
DJI publishes absolute accuracy of 3 cm horizontal and 5 cm vertical, and its product page states that is achieved without ground control points. Those are the surveyed markers a crew otherwise lays out before a flight. DJI's specification table prints the condition underneath: a Mapping Mission flown at a 3 cm ground sample distance and a flight speed of 15 m/s. Front overlap 75 percent, side overlap 55 percent. Ground sample distance is the ground each pixel covers. Change any of those settings and the figure changes. DJI states the P1 captures data meeting 1:500 scale accuracy requirements without ground control points.

3 km² in a flight and 7.5 km² in a working day are two different flights
DJI puts single flight coverage at 3 km², at a 3 cm ground sample distance with 75 percent front overlap and 55 percent side overlap. The 7.5 km² workday figure is measured on different settings. It uses Smart Oblique Capture at a 3 cm ground sample distance with 80 percent front overlap and 60 percent side overlap. DJI also states Smart Oblique Capture increases the efficiency of post-processing by 20 percent to 50 percent. Its reference cases are 1.5 km² at 200 m altitude for the 20 percent, and 0.5 km² at the same altitude for the 50 percent.

Smart Oblique Capture takes both image sets in one pass, and two DJI documents disagree on which aircraft runs it
The gimbal rotates during a single flight path, so ortho and oblique photos are gathered in one pass. DJI describes five angles covering the survey area and its edge. It does not always run to five. DJI states the sequence depends on the measurement area size, the flight altitude and the camera's tilt angle, so four, three or one angle can be flown. DJI states terrain following and corridor mapping flight do not support Smart Oblique Capture. DJI's FAQ states the function is currently supported only with the P1 mounted on the Matrice 300 RTK. DJI's user manual v1.4 documents Smart Oblique without restricting it to one aircraft. Ask us and a specialist will put that question to DJI against your drone.

A full frame sensor behind a global mechanical shutter, and two DJI lens tables that disagree
The sensor measures 35.9 by 24 mm, 45 MP effective, with a 4.4 micron pixel and 8192 by 5460 stills. DJI achieves the global mechanical shutter with a central leaf shutter, running 1/2000 s to 1 s at an aperture no larger than f/5.6. Three lenses are supported, the DJI DL 24mm, 35mm and 50mm F2.8 LS ASPH. DJI's specification page gives their fields of view as 84°, 63.5° and 46.8°. A second table inside DJI's user manual gives 82.440°, 63.000° and 46.200° for the same lenses. DJI does not state which measure is which.

Who should not buy this, and DJI's own cautions before the first flight
Fly an aircraft DJI does not name for the P1 and this is the wrong payload. If your specification depends on the fieldwork report, DJI's own footnote against that feature reads support coming soon. DJI's documents also disagree about filters. The user manual gives a procedure for fitting a filter or protector. The quick start guide states no other component such as a filter or lens hood should be added to the camera. DJI states the SD card slot cover must be closed properly before takeoff, or it can obstruct the gimbal arm and overload the motor. Shipped direct from the manufacturer.
