Topcon RL-H5B Horizontal Self-Leveling Rotary Laser with LS-80X Receiver
W-9 and vendor pack with every quote
Shipped direct from the manufacturer
The RL-H5B is Topcon's shorter-range horizontal self-leveling rotary laser, rated to a 400 meter working diameter and plus or minus 20 arc seconds, sold as a kit with the LS-80X receiver that reads it.
01
This is the RL-H5B, the shorter-range half of Topcon's two-laser pair, bundled here with the LS-80X receiver
Topcon builds two rotary lasers in this family, the RL-H5A and the RL-H5B, and it is easy to confuse them. The RL-H5B covers a 400 meter (1,312 foot) working diameter and self-levels to plus or minus 20 arc seconds. The RL-H5A covers twice the diameter, 800 meters, and self-levels tighter, to plus or minus 10 arc seconds. Every figure on this page describes the RL-H5B, the model this listing sells. The kit also includes the LS-80X receiver, the handheld unit that reads the beam off a grade rod or pole, covered in its own section below.
02
A horizontal self-leveling laser, not a slope laser
The RL-H5B self-levels automatically across a plus or minus 5 degree range and relevels itself if the tripod gets bumped mid-job, no operator input needed. It rotates at 600 rpm. Topcon does not build slope adjustment into this model; the working diameter and accuracy figures above are what the RL-H5B has, full stop. Topcon describes the RL-H5 family's general use as excavating, grading and general construction layout, without listing individual applications beyond that.
03
The LS-80X receiver reads the beam and tells you above, below or on grade
Half of what this kit sells is the LS-80X receiver, a handheld unit that clips to a grade rod or pole. It shows a nine-position arrow display on both faces, so the operator can read it from either side. It also sounds an alert as the pole crosses the plane. Detection precision is selectable: plus or minus 1.0 millimeter in high precision mode, or plus or minus 2.0 millimeters in normal mode. Its working diameter runs 2 to 800 meters (3 to 1,300 feet). It runs on two AA batteries for up to 120 hours, shuts off automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity, and is rated IP66 like the laser. Topcon's own brochure names this part the LS-80L in one line of its parts list. Topcon's own official parts catalog identifies this exact kit by its part number as shipping with the LS-80X, and every functional detail above matches the LS-80X datasheet exactly. The receiver that ships, and the one this page describes, is the LS-80X.
04
It is a Class 3R laser, and that beam can hurt your eyes if you look straight at it
Topcon publishes this instrument's laser as Class 3R, a visible beam that can cause eye injury from direct or reflected exposure. Do not stare into the beam or aim it at another person, and never view it through binoculars, a telescope or any other optical instrument. The RL-H5B's own printed brochure does not repeat the class rating; it comes from Topcon's current specification page for the RL-H5 series, the only place Topcon publishes it.
05
The laser and the LS-80X receiver ship together as one kit
This SKU is Topcon part 1021200-73, the RL-H5B laser bundled with the LS-80X receiver, and Topcon's own parts list names it that way. A sensor holder and a carry case ship with it. The instrument carries a five-year manufacturer's warranty. The laser runs up to 100 hours on four D-cell alkaline batteries, or up to 60 hours on Topcon's own rechargeable Ni-MH pack. Both the laser and the receiver are rated IP66 against dust and rain.
06
Whether batteries ship in the box is not settled, so call before you order
Topcon's own brochure lists batteries as a standard item in the box. An independent dealer's own published packing list for this exact laser does not mention batteries at all. We could not confirm which is accurate for every order. Call us before you buy and we will tell you exactly what ships with your kit, batteries included or not.

The LS-80X receiver, on its own
| What it does | A handheld laser receiver that clips to a grade rod or pole and tells the operator, by sound and by a display on both faces, whether the pole is above, below, or on the laser plane the RL-H5B is projecting |
| Display | Dual LCD, one screen on each face, with a 9-position arrow display showing direction and distance off grade |
| Alerts | Height alert, laser battery status, adjustable volume (loud, low, or off), automatic shutoff after 30 minutes of inactivity |
| Detection precision, selectable | High precision ±1.0 mm or normal precision ±2.0 mm |
| Working diameter | 2 to 800 m (3 to 1,300 ft) |
| Power and battery life | 2x AA dry cell or alkaline batteries, averaging up to 120 hours |
| Build | IP66 rated, 146 x 76 x 25 mm, 200 g, usable with most conventional rotating lasers, not only the RL-H5B |
| Receiver model naming | The receiver in this kit is marketed as the LS-80X. Topcon's own RL-H5B brochure names it the LS-80L in its Key Components list, a model with no separate datasheet, catalog listing, or parts-list entry found anywhere else. Topcon's own official parts list identifies this exact kit, part 1021200-73, as 'RL-H5B (Alkaline Battery w/LS-80X Receiver),' and Topcon's own accessory catalog and both independent dealers' own product titles and descriptions likewise name only the LS-80X. Every functional detail above (dual display, nine-position arrow indicator, roughly two-inch detection width) matches the LS-80X datasheet exactly. |
