Autel Robotics is named in the FY2025 defense authorization act, so settle procurement before anything else

Autel publishes no NDAA compliance claim, no Blue UAS status and no federal procurement claim for this model. Section 1709(a)(1) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025 lists communications or video surveillance equipment produced by Autel Robotics for national security evaluation. The Federal Communications Commission's covered list carries an entry for everything named in that section, with a date of inclusion of December 22, 2025. The same entry covers uncrewed aircraft systems produced in a foreign country, with four exceptions including Blue UAS Cleared List equipment until January 1, 2028. Autel is reached through the statute rather than through a row naming the company. Separately, the American Security Drone Act bars an executive agency from procuring a covered unmanned aircraft system made by a covered foreign entity. Autel sells five EVO Max configurations under one series name, and two of them are different aircraft

This listing is the EVO Max 4T, the zoom and thermal model. Autel gives it a maximum weight of 1645 g with propellers, the ABX40 battery and the Fusion 4T gimbal fitted. The EVO Max 4N swaps the zoom camera for a starlight night vision camera on the same aircraft. The 4T XE carries a different gimbal, with a 1/2 inch 48 MP wide-angle camera in place of the 4T's 1/1.28 inch 50 MP one. The EVO Max 4T V2 is not the same aircraft. Autel's brochure gives the V2 series a 563 x 657 x 147 mm body against 563 x 650 x 150 mm here. It also has a repositioned fisheye lens, side heat grooves and the ABX41-D battery as standard. A fifth, the 4T Pro, is marked discontinued on Autel's own component table. Confirm which one your quotation covers before you order.

The Fusion 4T carries three sensors and a rangefinder, and Autel publishes two thermal lens lengths

The zoom camera is a 1/2 inch 48 MP sensor at an equivalent 64 to 234 mm. It gives 2.7 to 10x continuous optical zoom, 20x hybrid and 160x digital. The wide-angle camera is a 1/1.28 inch 50 MP sensor at 24 mm equivalent, f/2.8, reaching ISO 32000 in automatic night mode. The thermal camera is an uncooled VOx microbolometer shooting 640x512 stills and 640x512 video at 25p, across a 61 degree field at f/1.0. The laser rangefinder works at 905 nm from 5 to 1200 m, accurate to 1 m plus 0.15 percent of the distance to a vertical reflecting plane. Autel gives the thermal lens as 13 mm in its payload overview and its own footnote, and as 9.1 mm in its technical specification table. Those two are not reconcilable from anything Autel publishes.

Thermal accuracy is plus or minus 3 degrees, and Autel names three things that widen it

Radiometric measurement runs from minus 20 to 150 degrees C in high gain mode and 0 to 550 degrees C in low gain. Autel rates accuracy at plus or minus 3 degrees C, or 3 percent of the reading, whichever is larger. That holds at an ambient temperature between minus 20 and 60 degrees C. On Autel's own account, three things increase the error. Higher atmospheric temperature and humidity increase it. Greater distance between camera and target increases it. A target with low surface emissivity against a high background temperature increases it. Autel also instructs operators not to point the infrared camera at the sun, lava, laser beams or molten metal, because that may damage the detector.

Two millimeter-wave radars do the sensing, and which ones you get depends on your country

The 60 GHz radar senses upward from 0.3 to 20 m, downward from 0.15 to 80 m, and forward and backward from 0.3 to 50 m. A 24 GHz radar senses downward only, from 0.8 to 12 m. Twelve visual sensors cover forward to 31 m, backward to 25 m, sideways to 26 m and downward to 23 m. Autel states that to comply with national and regional rules, certain versions use the 24 GHz radar downward and 60 GHz radars elsewhere. So the sensing suite on your aircraft depends on the version sold into your region, and that is worth confirming before you order. Autel names where sensing fails: mirrors and other highly reflective surfaces, sparse or repetitive texture, and thin obstacles such as wires, cables and branches.

Plan the flight against Autel's lower published figures, because its own surfaces disagree

Autel gives 42 minutes maximum flight time and 38 minutes hovering. Its specification table gives a maximum transmission distance of 15 km under FCC and 8 km under CE, without interference or blocking. Its EVO Max FAQ answers the same question with 12.4 miles, which is about 20 km. Wind resistance is 10.7 m/s during takeoff and landing and 12 m/s in cruise. Service ceiling is 4000 m above sea level with the ABX40 battery and 3000 m with the ABX41. US law caps flight at 400 feet, and the app allows a ceiling from 0 to 800 m, so the legal limit binds long before the aircraft does. Operating temperature is minus 20 to 50 degrees C without a payload, narrowing to 40 degrees C at full load.

Batteries Two smart batteries fit. The ABX40 is 8070 mAh at 14.88 V, 120 Wh, 520 g. The ABX41 is 9248 mAh at 14.76 V, 136.5 Wh. Both measure 158.4 × 74.3 × 50.7 mm, and Autel's component table lists each as standard or sold separatelyThe battery changes the service ceiling: 4000 meters on the ABX40, 3000 meters on the ABX41. Autel's own weight figure for this model is stated with the ABX40 fitted. Autel publishes two weights for the ABX41, 533 g in its specification table and 530 g in its user manual, and has not reconciled them.
Charging Autel's safety guidelines state it takes up to 90 minutes to fully charge the battery, and that exact charging time depends on the remaining power. Autel's specification table gives a charge temperature range of 5 °C to 45 °C (41 °F to 113 °F)Below 5 °C the battery stops charging and activates self-heating. Above 45 °C it stops charging.
Battery temperature Autel publishes two different ranges. Its specification table gives the smart battery an operating temperature of -20 °C to 50 °C. Its EVO Max 4T disclaimer and safety operation guidelines instruct operators to use the battery between -10 °C and 40 °C, and state that temperatures too high may cause fire or spontaneous combustion while temperatures too low may cause permanent damageBoth are Autel's own. The narrower range is the one in the safety document.
Cold weather Autel states that when the battery temperature falls below 10 °C it must be preheated before the aircraft can take off. Self-heating triggers automatically once a battery below 10 °C is inserted and activated, and deactivates once the aircraft has taken off. Below -10 °C the aircraft will not be allowed to take off
Hot swapping Autel's specification table lists hot-swappable batteries as supported, and its FAQ answers "Yes" when asked whether the batteries are hot swappable. Autel also confirms that EVO Max 4N batteries work in the EVO Max 4T and the other way aroundAutel's own conditions on hot swapping: the function has to be enabled in the Autel Enterprise App beforehand, the swap should be completed within 8 seconds so the aircraft recognizes and activates the new battery, and Autel states hot swapping may fail below -10 degrees Celsius. Its user manual carries "hot swapping batteries fails under certain conditions" in its own known issues list, with the same temporary measure.
Self-discharge Autel states that a battery stored at high temperature or left unused for 6 days at a high charge level will begin discharging itself to a safe level. The default process takes 2 to 3 days, during which no battery indicator shows and the battery is slightly warm, both of which Autel describes as normal
Battery life and replacement Autel's maintenance manual recommends replacing the battery after 300 cycles, or sooner if the surface bulges, leaks or shows damage, or if two consecutive standard charge and discharge cycles fail to recover an abnormality. It recommends a maintenance check once a battery has been cycled 50 times or left inactive for 3 monthsThe warranty period on the battery is shorter than its recommended service life. Named in the FY2025 defense authorization act Section 1709(a)(1) of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025, Public Law 118-159, lists "Communications or video surveillance equipment produced by Autel Robotics" for national security evaluation, alongside the same category for DJI, and extends the listing to subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, joint ventures and technology sharing or licensing arrangements. The same section directs the Federal Communications Commission to add that equipment to the covered list if no national security agency completes a determination within one year of enactment
On the FCC covered list The Federal Communications Commission's covered list carries an entry for all communications and video surveillance equipment and services listed in Section 1709(a)(1) of the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act, with a date of inclusion of December 22, 2025. The same entry covers uncrewed aircraft systems and their critical components produced in a foreign country, with four exceptions: those on the Defense Contract Management Agency's Blue UAS Cleared List, until January 1, 2028; those that qualify as domestic end products under the Buy American standard at 48 CFR 25.101(a), until January 1, 2028; devices granted a conditional approval; and foreign-produced toy drones as the associated national security determination defines themAutel is reached through the statute rather than through a row that names the company. The American Security Drone Act of 2023 Subtitle B of Title XVIII of Public Law 118-31 bars the head of an executive agency from procuring a covered unmanned aircraft system manufactured or assembled by a covered foreign entity, and defines a covered foreign entity to include any entity domiciled in the People's Republic of China or subject to its influence or control, and any subsidiary or affiliate of one. From two years after enactment it also bars federal funds awarded through a contract, grant or cooperative agreement from being used to procure or operate one, and it bars government-issued purchase cards from being used to procure one with immediate effectThe statute works through a list the Federal Acquisition Security Council maintains and publishes in the System for Award Management, so eligibility is a question for your contracting officer rather than for a product page.

Autel's own end-use statement Autel authorizes this product for sale, export or domestic transfer solely for civil, non-military end-use. Its user manual requires the purchaser to ensure the product is not put to any military end-use, to any use connected with nuclear, biological or chemical weapons or the missiles that deliver them, to export or transfer to a sanctioned individual or entity, to export or transfer to an embargoed destination, or to use in connection with surveillance-related equipment or systemsAutel markets the same aircraft for law enforcement and security work. Software, data and registration
Flight software Autel Enterprise, and asked what software is supported Autel answers "Autel Enterprise only currently". Autel's user manual states the Autel Smart Controller V3 is built on Android 11 and ships with pre-installed applications, some of which may be replaced by third-party alternatives
Where the data sits Autel states that data involving user and aircraft information, including flight logs, locations and account information, can only be physically accessed via the aircraft locally, and that photos, videos and flight logs support AES encryption and are password-protected
Storage 128 GB internal storage with 64 GB of available space, and Autel notes the remaining space varies with firmware version. Autel's user manual requires microSD cards rated Class 10, UHS-3 or higher
Thermal file handling Thermal stills are JPG and carry temperature information that is parsed by Autel's dedicated SDK and PC tools. Autel's FAQ names an IR PC Tool for temperature analysis
Activation and registration Autel states new drones and remote controllers must be activated before use, with the remote controller connected to the internet and linked to the drone. In the United States, Autel directs operators to register at FAADroneZone before use and states operators must be 13 years or older
Mission types Autel names waypoint missions, polygon missions with one-click area generation, automatic route generation from boundary points or an imported KML file, quick missions created in the air while another mission runs, and mission reproduction that records camera angles and flight path for repeat flightsTwo of these are not shipping yet. RTK and accessories
RTK module Optional and not included in the standard combo. Autel lists two modules, the XRT-2301S and the XRT-2301H, each 29 g and 72 × 48 × 45 mm, fitted to the drone's top expansion port for centimeter-level navigation and positioning accuracyAutel states a designated RTK network service package is included free with the module, with no subscription during its valid period and further service purchasable after expiration. The drone must stay connected to the internet, through a 4G dongle module or the controller's Wi-Fi, and Autel notes RTK network service may not be available in some countries or regions, in which case the module cannot be used.
Loudspeaker and searchlight module Optional, 145 × 116 × 83 mm, mounted through the Payload SDK on a screw quick release, operating from -10 °C to 50 °C. The searchlight is rated at a maximum 30 W with a 14° FOV, giving 30 lux at 50 m, 7 lux at 100 m and 3 lux at 150 m, with strong flashing or constant modes, remote pitch adjustment from 30° to -90° or automatic tracking with the gimbal, and brightness adjustment. The loudspeaker is rated 10 W at 114 decibels measured at 1 m, broadcasting 300 m or further, with under 300 ms delay and support for recording and audio playback
Docking Autel states that used with the EVO Nest, the EVO Max 4T supports all-weather automatic piloting for scenarios such as substations, industrial parks and rooftops. The EVO Nest handles automatic takeoff, landing, charging and mission planning for the EVO Max series
Third-party payloads Autel states that even where a third-party device is physically compatible with the drone it makes no guarantee about safety or suitability, and accepts no liability for injury or damage caused by third-party equipment. Its own instruction is to use only accessories it supplies or authorizes, and it states unapproved accessories can create serious safety risks and will void the warranty
Developer access Autel publishes a Mobile SDK and a Payload SDK. The Open UX SDK for iOS and Android calls the existing interactive interface directly, and the Payload SDK provides unified interface standards for third-party mounts
Warranty and maintenance
Warranty periods in the United States For the EVO Max series Autel gives 12 months on the main controller, the gimbal and camera, the vision positioning system, the propulsion system excluding propellers, the remote controller, the RC charger and the battery charger. The battery is covered for 12 months or fewer than 200 charge cycles, whichever comes first. The RTK module, spotlight, strobe and speaker are covered for 6 months. Propellers carry no warranty periodThese are Autel's periods for the United States. Autel publishes 24 months for the same parts in the EU and 12 months across APEC, South America, the Middle East and Africa.
Warranty on the case Autel's EVO Max 4T maintenance manual gives 12 months on the whole machine, covering the flight control system, fuselage, motor, ESC, antenna and gimbal camera, and gives the rugged case 3 months
When the warranty starts Autel takes the activation time if there is one, the purchase voucher date if there is no activation time, and the earlier of the two if both exist. Failing both it uses the serial number to find the factory date and adds 90 days. Autel states that if none of this can be provided, no warranty is provided
Wearing parts Autel's own wearing parts list for this model covers 4 clockwise blades, 4 counter-clockwise blades, 4 motors, 2 rear landing gear, 2 front landing gear, 4 conjunction covers, 2 battery removal buttons, an air inlet dust filter, an air outlet dust filter and 2 remote controller sticks. Autel notes each power motor uses 2 blades and that motor replacement is required only for deep maintenance
Repairs and firmware Autel recommends updating the firmware of the aircraft, the intelligent flight battery and the remote controller before each use. It states that repairs or modifications performed with outside vendor parts void the warranty
